The Forbidden Kingdom

Sneaked out to watch The Forbidden Kingdom on Saturday, upon the insistence of my dad who was absolutely thrilled to see Jackie Chan and Jet Li together. The English dialogue tended to be quite cheesey, especially the part where they compared kungfu to water, and all that crap about how you must both be gentle and hard at the same time. Maybe it's just because I'm used to hearing such 'profound philosophy' in Chinese, so the English version came out as rather cheesey. (did i spell cheesey correctly?) But the figh scences were really awesome, esp. the one between Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Jackie Chan was the funniest in the movie(as usual), and Jet Li was the quietest as the Silent monk(probably because he can't speak English well :D). And thank god there's none of that standard Hollywood kissing. I really can't stand the hero save damsel in distress and they fall in love concept. So fairy-talish.

My auntie has recently lent me another Korean drama that revolves around the very place I'm desperately trying to hide from - the hospital. I think it's a most terrifying drama, not because of the blood and gore (just lots of tomato juice and roast pigs for the surgeons to cut on :P), but because you'll start to lose faith in doctors and surgeons whom you trust your life with. The drama shows doctors who mistakenly pluck the wrong drip out of the patient, doctors who quarrel IN THE SURGERY ROOM about what they should do, doctors who allow patients to do certain things w/o first checking their case notes and doctors who draw blood w/o wearing gloves!! (okay, maybe the producers were trying to save costs) What's worse is that a few of the resident physicians I meet(esp. those that come at night) look a lot like those doctors who will end up doing the above-mentioned. Some of them don't know how to draw blood from the CVC line (they end up wasting quite a bit of my precious blood) It's usually the staff nurses or sisters who seem to know best, but it's just too bad that they're not authorised to prescribe medicine.
